Planning & reminders
A LITTLE LIFE GUIDE / GUIDE

Give a task one clear next step

Turn a broad intention into a task you can recognize when its reminder arrives.

A reminder called “sort things out” gives you another decision to make. Name a small visible action instead, such as “find the renewal email” or “check the appointment time.”

THE LITTLE THING TO REMEMBER

A useful task title tells you what to do when the alert appears.

01

Write for your future self

Use the task title for the action and notes for the surrounding detail. “Review the phone receipt” is easier to act on than a copied paragraph from an email. Put the account reference or document context in notes rather than making the notification title unreadable.

02

Choose the first review

A due date and a review time can be different. If the decision is due Friday, schedule a short Wednesday check-in to gather the missing information. Keep the source deadline intact so moving the review does not quietly change the actual obligation.

03

Plan for real delivery

Imagine opening an alert between two meetings. “Check document” leaves you hunting for context, while “Confirm the service visit time” tells you which decision to make. Open the linked source before changing the task if you discover that the visit has already moved. You can revise the title and retain the original evidence in the same saved entry. If the actual next step becomes sending a reply, add the reviewed recipient and draft context there. This keeps a changing task recognizable without producing another copy each time you learn something. The notification title should remain brief enough to identify the job when the full source is out of view.

PUT IT INTO PRACTICE

One step at a time.

  1. 01

Open a new to-do or an existing captured action.

  2. 02

Name the next observable action in its title.

  3. 03

Add the source context in the notes field.

  4. 04

Set a review time before the actual deadline.

A little reference.

Keep the context and your next action together.

ONE MORE QUESTION

Should I put the whole email in the task title?

Keep the title brief. Store supporting details in notes and retain the captured source for review.

Your source stays the reference.
