If you step away during a timed review, pause the focus countdown rather than letting it measure time you are not using. Resume when you return to the same task.
A paused timer preserves remaining work time; it does not postpone the task’s obligations.
Understand what is paused
Pause focus timer freezes the remaining duration. It does not pause the source deadline or every scheduled review alert. If you need the entry to stop notifying you as well, inspect the separate review-alert control and decide whether that pause is appropriate.
Pick up the right context
Before resuming, open the source or notes so you know where you stopped. If the work has changed substantially, edit the task’s next step instead of simply restarting an old timer. Your saved task remains the context for the session.
Plan for real delivery
If a call interrupts your review with a minute remaining, pause the countdown before switching attention. When you return, read the last checklist line or note to recover your place, then resume that remaining minute if it still represents useful work. A long interruption can change the situation: the needed reply may already have arrived, or you may no longer have time to finish. Inspect the task rather than automatically restarting the session. If you need a later review, move that check-in explicitly. Preserving a timer’s remaining duration is useful only when the work context is also clear enough for you to resume the intended action.

Does pausing a timer mute notification rules?
No. Focus timing and review-alert scheduling are separate controls on the entry.
