A notice may be due on Friday, while your useful preparation time is Wednesday evening. An advance reminder helps you start without rewriting what the notice actually says.
An advance reminder should make a deadline easier to meet, not change the deadline itself.
Check the original date first
Read the source and verify whether its date refers to payment, submission, an appointment or simply the document’s issue date. These mean different things. Correct an extracted date before building reminders around it; a well-timed alert for the wrong date still misleads.
Pick a preparation action
Make the early reminder concrete: gather documents, review the amount or confirm the location. You can add another review closer to the deadline when needed. Avoid creating several identical alerts that give you no new decision or preparation step.
Keep the task and its review separate
Suppose a document asks for a response by Friday afternoon. A Wednesday reminder could ask you to gather the supporting file, and Thursday’s review could ask you to check the final draft. Keep Friday as the original deadline rather than replacing it with Wednesday simply to see the task sooner. When the early alert arrives, open the checklist and perform its preparation step. If the required file is unavailable, record that specific blocker and choose another useful review time. Multiple alerts earn their place when each asks for a different piece of work; repeating “deadline soon” at several arbitrary times adds interruptions without improving your preparation or explaining what remains.

Add a later check-in only if it serves another purpose.
A little reference.
Keep the context and your next action together.

Can I move a review without changing the due date?
Yes. Use the next check-in controls and then verify the task’s original deadline remains correct.
