A local model download needs internet and enough free storage even though later supported processing can run offline. Treat that preparation as a separate step from reading your document.
Offline capability begins with a completed and verified model download.
Choose from supported options
Use the supported model selections in OneTap rather than guessing that a similarly named model will work. Consider the source you need to process: text interpretation and prepared-image vision have different requirements. The fact that a model is larger does not guarantee a better result for your particular document.
Wait for a verified installed state
Use Download selected model and watch its progress. Afterward, check the installed list before choosing local mode for a source. If the download is interrupted, inspect readiness again rather than treating a partial progress indicator as evidence that the model can run.
Distinguish access from availability
Before downloading another model, inspect whether your current supported selection already handles the task you need. A simple recognized-text source may not need a larger vision download. If you deliberately choose a new model, allow the download to finish and then refresh the installed list. Do not delete a working installation merely because a progress screen briefly stops changing. Model files are managed by Ollama, while OneTap’s encrypted workspace stores a different kind of information. Keep those storage decisions separate when freeing space. The useful endpoint is an installed supported selection you have checked with a reviewed source, not a collection of large files whose purpose is unclear.
One step at a time.
- 01
Check that your Mac has room for the selected model.
- 02
Choose a supported model for the input you need.
- 03
Start its download while internet is available.
- 04
Verify it appears in the installed list before analysis.
A little reference.
Keep the context and your next action together.
| Choice | Use it for | Check before saving |
|---|---|---|
| Download | Fetch model data | Needs internet and storage |
| Installed check | Verify local readiness | Do after completion |
| Analysis | Use prepared local data | Still review the result |
Can I start a first-time model download while offline?
No. Downloading the model requires a connection; offline use is available after the required data and local service are ready.
