Once the supported local model is installed and Ollama is running, some Mac interpretation work can proceed without internet. Other workflows still depend on external services.
An offline review can clarify the next step without pretending the external step already happened.
Prepare the source locally
Use a saved supported source, native OCR or pasted text on the Mac. Choose local AI explicitly and review its result against that source. A network outage does not change whether an unreadable image or ambiguous date needs your attention.
Keep connected work separate
Downloading new models, requesting online AI and accessing Google services still need their appropriate connections. Sending a message also happens in its separate mail or messaging app. Local model availability does not mean an email was sent or an external calendar was updated while offline.
Review the result against the source
Prepare an offline work session around sources already available on the Mac. Open the relevant file, confirm its recognized text and make sure the selected supported model is installed before losing connectivity. Keep a list of actions that still require the internet, such as sending a reply or checking a live calendar, rather than marking them complete after a local draft appears. During the session, save reviewed notes and local task changes deliberately. When connectivity returns, inspect whether the external context changed before performing those waiting actions. Offline interpretation is useful because you can clarify your plan locally, while the eventual external step still gets a current review.
One step at a time.
- 01
Prepare supported model data while connected.
- 02
Keep Ollama running when you switch to offline work.
- 03
Choose the local processing mode for the source.
- 04
Leave connected sending or booking steps for their own review.
A little reference.
Keep the context and your next action together.

Does local AI make Gmail available without internet?
No. Local model processing and connected Google services are separate capabilities.
